How to keep your eyes healthy

Fats contained in processed foods like French fries, cookies, and pre-cooked foods, increase the chances for macular degeneration 2 times more. Hence, Dr. Seddon claims that if we consume small amounts of food rich in linoleum acid and have two or more servings of fish per week, the risk of macular degeneration can be significantly reduced.

Eat for Good Vision

Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts, studies show. Regularly eating these foods can help lead to good eye health:

Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and collards
Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sources
Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices
Oysters and pork
Eating a well-balanced diet also helps you maintain a healthy weight, which makes you less likely to get obesity-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults.

Oily fish

Docosahexaenoic acid is a fat in fish that is very beneficial for the blood vessels that reach the retina. Foods with this acid can significantly lower the chances for development of macular degeneration.

A study done at the Tufts University in Boston, with 4000 participants, showed that people who ate white rice, past, and bread had a greater risk of developing diabetes and macular degeneration. What’s more, 20% of the patients could have prevented the occurrence of macular degeneration by reduction of such foods.


It influences the platelets function. Also, garlic doesn’t thin down the blood and acts as a coagulant by causing spontaneous and excessive blood flow. Regular eye exams and early detection are the best prevention of significant loss of vision.

Garlic is exceptional for the cardiovascular health. It’s an antioxidant that can significantly lower the triglycerides and cholesterol levels. It can also prevent plaque deposits-responsible for clogged arteries.

Allicin, a substance in garlic, affects the function of angiotensin II, a small protein that contracts the blood vessels.

If you want to retain your good sight, consume garlic more frequently by adding it to salads, stews, soups, etc.
